Oman is a lesser-known Gulf jewel famous for dramatic fjords, mountain scenery, and Bedouin culture. Travelers venture inland from coastal Muscat to explore wadis, hike dramatic cliffs, and experience traditional hospitality in one of the Middle East's more pristine and less crowded destinations.

Muscat International Airport (MCT) is the primary hub on the capital's outskirts. Immigration procedures are straightforward and rarely congested; the airport is modern and well-organized, with clear directions to ground transport and onward connections.

Oman entry notes: 14-day visa exemption and Royal Oman Police eVisa

Oman now routes most visitor visa checks through a 14-day visa exemption list or the Royal Oman Police eVisa system. The exemption is useful, but it comes with practical conditions that matter at check-in.

  • Many passports are covered by Oman's 14-day visa exemption; second-list countries may need residence or a valid visa from the US, Canada, Australia, the UK, Schengen, Japan, or eligible GCC residence.
  • Travelers using the exemption should be ready to show a passport valid for at least six months, a return ticket, confirmed hotel booking, health insurance, and sufficient funds.
  • If your passport is not covered by the exemption, use the Royal Oman Police eVisa website to check the correct tourist visit visa route before travel.

Is Oman visa-free for tourists?

Can the 14-day Oman exemption be extended?

The Oman Foreign Ministry describes the 14-day exemption as not extendable or transferable to residence status.
