Passport Validity Checker
Does your passport meet the entry rule for your destination? We apply the correct requirement — 6-month on arrival, 3-month Schengen, duration-only, and others — and tell you exactly how many days you have to spare (or lose).
Visa rules change without notice. Always confirm with the embassy, consulate or the official government source linked above before you book or travel.
Why passport validity rules differ by country
Most countries require your passport to remain valid for at least 6 months beyond your arrival date — the "6-month rule." But the exact requirement varies:
- Schengen Area (26 European countries): 3 months beyond your intended departure date — and your passport must be less than 10 years old.
- UK, US, Canada, Japan: Passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay — no 6-month buffer required by law. Airlines may still enforce their own stricter rules.
- Turkey: 60 days beyond permitted stay.
- New Zealand: 3 months beyond departure.
Even when a country has no legal 6-month rule, airlines sometimes board-deny passengers with less than 6 months remaining — a risk this tool flags with a soft warning.
